A few things we've been paying attention to this June. Some are happening around the city, some are people and platforms we wanted you to know about, and a few are open calls in case you're looking.
This Month
June 6, 2026
A guided photo walk through Accra. Come ready to explore, create and connect with fellow creatives.
June 7, 2026
An intimate alternative music set celebrating the close of the "In Pursuit of Happiness" era.
June 8–10, 2026
Untamed Palettes is a debut solo exhibition by 12-year-old artist Theresa Akosua Afriyie Beeko. Opening night Sunday, on view through the weekend at The Mix Art Gallery in Osu.
Under the Radar
Two platforms doing the slow work of preserving African heritage, one through reading lists, one through material culture.
Books2Watch

Books2Watch builds reading lists around African history that doesn't get taught (colonial-era texts, oral traditions, archive material). Worth a follow if you want to read deeper.
Si Hene Foundation

Si Hene documents the regalia, textiles, and material culture of Ghanaian traditional authority. The kind of archive that wouldn't otherwise exist.
Creative Opportunities
A few open calls this month. In case one of them speaks to you.
Deadline - June 14, 2026
An open call to anonymously share real-life stories on grief, mental health, and relocation, to be transformed into a staged performance.
Deadline - July 3, 2026
A free, four-month virtual lab for emerging writers and poets, offering mentorship, a supportive peer community, and the structure to build a sustainable writing practice.
Deadline - June 30, 2026
Open submissions for publishers across Africa and the Caribbean, recognizing literary work from the region.
One More Thing
We recently held our second Achimota Book Club meeting. What stood out was how easily conversations flowed between people who had never met before. What began as a search for a reading space closer to home is slowly becoming a regular gathering. We meet once a month, read together for an hour, then share what we've read.
Low-pressure, no required reading list.
If you live nearby and want to come, sign up here.
Thanks for reading our June issue. If you come across something you think we'd like (an event, a spot, a book), send an email to [email protected]. If we feature it, we'll credit you.
Until next month,
Accra Culture & Co
